Objectives of the course:
Field work and dissertation writing is an essential activity for sociology and social science students. Field based research is one of major activities for social science students. Writing and publication of research findings is an integral part of research. Therefore, it is necessary for a students / researcher to learn and apply principles and techniques of report writing for effective dissemination of the academic and research findings. This course intends to introduce the learner to the principles, techniques and tools of academic and research report writing. After successful completion of this course the learner will be able to write reports on various academic activities including research effectively and efficiently.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- The students are introduced to the field of social research and the relation between the theory and the field data.
- The course develops a scientific outlook in understanding the social relations and forces, as parts of living experiences.
- The under graduate students are taught how to create dissertations on different aspects of sociology and social science that would lead them to undertake research projects in future.
Course Content:
- Modules Week 1 & 2 (Module – 1): Synopsis writing
- Week 3, 4 & 5 (Module – 2): Title Page, Acknowledgement, Abstract, Table of chapter, core chapter and pilot survey
- Week 6, 7 & 8 (Module – 3): Introduction, Literature Review and various methods of data collections and field survey
- Week 9, 10, 11 & 12 (Module – 4): Use of statistics, Tabulation and data interpretation, importance of footnotes, Appendix and report writings.
About Course Instructors:
- Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pankaj Kumar is Head, department of Sociology, Asansol Girls’ College, Kazi Nazrul University (KNU), West Bengal. He has completed his M.A. from Jawaharlal Nehru University, M.Phil from Delhi University and Ph.D from University of Burdwan (WB).
- Mrs. Megha Bagdas is assistant Professor in Sociology, Department of Sociology, Asansol Girls’ College, Kazi Nazrul University (KNU), West Bengal. She has completed her M.A and M.Phil from Jadavpur University.
- Piyali Sarkar - State Aided College Teacher, Category-II in Sociology, Department of Sociology, Asansol Girls’ College, Kazi Nazrul University (KNU), West Bengal. She has completed her M.A from University of Burdwan.
